XIRÊ OF THE ORIXÁS

BY

CARLOS BUBY

The Xirê of Orixás set forth by Templo Guaracy is related to the "static" quadrant of Odudua and not to that of individuals. The quadrant of a person is changeable and is subject to alterations provoked, among other things, by the dynamics of evolution. At each phase of our evolution, we alter the vibratory frequency, the plane, in short, the quality of our Orixá. Initiatic rituals, in addition to promoting the development of sensibility and perception, also set forth the energetic qualification of the Orixás and connection of these with spiritual consciousness. We call this effect "verticality." "Verticality" is a phenomenon which occurs when the Eledá is in perfect alignment and is attuned to the vibratory dimensions called Ori and Orô.

The relation that we have with the phenomena of Nature is that we, ourselves, are one of them, so that we cannot escape this marvelous pulsation which is Life. We exist within it and with it we follow the eternal path. Why not recognize in the internal and external unity, the essence of being for God and living as Nature, as the Orixás are in essence for Life and manifest in the World? Even if, for some, universal Fraternity is a Utopia, why can't we allow ourselves the pleasure of following the paths that lead to it?

To simplify the understanding of the Xirê, the example below shows how simple it is to relate the events of our daily life with the effect of the Orixás. We will give a brief review of the "Cycle of Fire." As we said, earlier, the "Cycle of Fire" is made up of the interaction of the Orixás Elegbara, Ogum, Oxumarê, and Xangô. If we take as an example, the birth of a child, we will see the action of these four Orixás, each at its own Time.

First, Elegbara, which has the quality of universal libido, is the Orixá that carries the fire of physical attraction and the foundation of Sexuality. It is concentrated power, eager to explode as the "Big Bang" in the beginning of Time. It is passion without consciousness, as bright as the stars that we can see in chaos. It is that which, in the form of "orgasm," produces the millions of divine options.

Second, is Ogum, continuous movement. That which allows the spermatozoa a movement without resistance, so it can reach its goal - fertilization. It is good to remember that, at Templo Guaracy, Ogum is considered Force and not energy. The different Forces represent the different qualities of Ogum. Its constant movement is always linear and is responsible, for example, for the rotational movements and the motion of the Earth, just as the oscillation of the seas is provoked by the effect of the gravitational forces of the Moon.

After fertilization, the fascinating process of "composition" begins. It is the effect of Oxumarê, the Orixá responsible for the organized multiplication of the innumerable cells, which go into the constitution of the embryo. In some traditions, Oxumarê is also known as Dan, the male snake, the universal principle of movement. Its most popular representation in the visible world is the rainbow. Through the Light of Oxumarê we can evaluate the levels of organization and disorganization in our work, our family, and in our life.

Completing the process, we perceive the effect of Xangô. The already constituted fetus arises with a defined material form. It is the crystallization of a dream that began before any physical manifestation. It is the transformation of the Primordial Light into the Energy of Logic (=E of Einstein) and finally into matter.

The "Cycle of Fire", in all of its expansion, can serve as a reference for all types of realizations. Xangô, also identified as the structural rock of the world, carries within itself the Fire of Glory. It transforms Law into Justice and extols equilibrium as a point of balance between excess and shortage.
