GUARACYAN CONCEPTS

PEGI - Ceremonial altar utilized by temples of Umbanda. Some altars use a table, images, candles, flowers, etc. This is due to the influences originating from the syncretism with the Catholic altars. Other temples abolished the Catholic representations and, replaced them with various symbols of Nature.

POLARIDADES (POLARITIES) - Necessary vertical opposite poles. Generating divergent forces of the vertical balance. Vertical line of the quadrant. Examples: (Love and Hate) (Light and Darkness) (Truth and Lies).

PRETO(A) VELHO(A) (OLD BLACK MAN or WOMAN) - Popular term used to denominate Spiritual Guides that independently of Color, Race or Age possess the highest Consciousness of Love. They are ancestral experts of the alchemy that transforms Love in Tenderness. Ritualistic Masters and magicians by nature, they make the Wisdom contained in the method, their evolutionary path. QUADRANTE (QUADRANT)- Geometric representation of the Polarities and Dualities (+). Symbol of balance among the inferior (negative Polarity) and superior (positive Polarity) dimensions in relation to the physical plane. Representation of the geometric Axis of the Earth and its cardinal points. Representative reference of the past, present and future. Indication of the four elements (Fire, Earth, Water, Air). Reference to the four seasons. Balance.

QUIMBANDA - Set of rites that characterize the cult to the inferior polarities related to the foundations of Umbanda. System for which we can understand the world through contrasts. Liturgy that propitiates the mediumnic connection with the different phalanges and legions of Exús and Pomba Giras.

SABEDORIA (WISDOM)- Light of Knowledge. Knowledge exercised with Love.

SACUDIMENTO (SHAKING) - Popular term used to denominate a series of rituals for spiritual "cleansing" of people, objects or places. From the verb "to shake" - to expell. Example: to remove kiumbas.

TERNURA (TENDERNESS) - Spiritual light of Love. Dimension of Love where polarities and dualities do not exist. Pure expression of the Primordial Light in a relationship. Feeling that impels us to Compassion.

TEMPO CRONOLÓGICO (CHRONOLOGICAL TIME) - Hiatus of the Eternal Time provoked by the intersection of the human Consciousness. Cyclical space that separates BEING from LIVING. Point of reference for the concepts regarding evolutionary dynamics in the composed world.

TEMPO ESPIRITUAL (SPIRITUAL TIME) - Term used to denominate the space existing between the axis of the Eternal Time and the dynamics of the Chronological Time. Point of reference that positions the individual in relation to the cosmos. It is an Orixá made of the composition of the vibratory rhythm of Eledá with the compass of Orô. Essence that fills the existent space between the BEING and the FUNCTION, created by the chronological consciousness.

TEMPO ETERNAL (ETERNAL TIME) - Imaginary vertical line starting from the association of infinite opportune moments. Absence of past, present and future. Utopian space located within our Logical and Archaic brains. Dimension where the Primordial Light travels within itself the infinite path called Eternity.

TRANSE - Altered state of Consciousness caused, in Umbanda, by the phenomenon of incorporation.

TRONQUEIRA - Nucleus through which different types and qualities of energies circulate. Crossroads that present more than four accesses. Name given to a powerful phalange of Exús.

VERTICAL - Term used at Templo Guaracy to represent the spiritual dimensions. Inspiration state that makes us notice somebody or something through a spiritualistic point of view.

ZOMBETEIRO - Popular term used to denominate an égun of low astral plane who satirizes order and sacred values.
